I Alice, vow to be obedient, live in poverty, and have no relationships
Amen
This is Alice, her parents have sent her to a nunnery that follows Benedict's Rule, many nunneries around this time decided to follow some form of this rule. The Church has received a payment from Alice's parents. Her parents are sending her ways because they can not afford to get her married.
I am planting some crops
And I am also making some food
By taking a vow of poverty, obedience, and chastity it now makes her a Benedictine. A nun would have been seen as marrying god, she will wear a ring and a crown
To start the day in the morning Alice gathers in the chapel where she prays, sings, and listens to the religious text. She will do this several times a day.The nuns were expected to pray for their Nobels.
Alice then does her daily tasks, tending to the garden, and preparing the food. During this time other nuns will tend to the sick, teach children, and make clothes. If you came from a wealthy background you were given lighter work.
In the middle of the day, Alice would copy manuscripts
At the end of the day, Alice and her fellow nuns pray one last time before going to bed. They will do the same thing tomorrow.
