A young boy, age 14 in at his cottage on a river next to a girl, Sheila Mant who is 17. The 14 year old boy is trying to work up the courage to ask her out. He admired her.
Climax
It took the boy all summer to gain the courage to ask Sheila out. As they were playing softball he finally got the chance to ask. As she was running out to the outfield, he got her attention so he asked her on a date.
Falling Action
It is dark outside as they start their canoeing trip to watch the band. One of the first things Sheila says when she gets in the canoe is how dumb she thinks fishing is. That immediately makes the boy question whether or not he should've brought his fishing pole.
Resolution
While the boy was on the river he knew there were a lot of bass out so he casted out and caught a huge bass. But then he had a problem. He knew Sheila Mant did not like fish or fishing but he wanted to reel the bass in. He had to make the decision of whether he wanted to get the fish and make Sheila lose interest, or let go of the fish and keep Sheila's interest.
The boy held onto the fish for awhile because he was waiting for a moment to be able to get it. Sheila kept asking questions and he was giving her false answers because he was just trying to keep her calm and make him not so suspicious. Before it got too late, Sheila started complaining so he took her back.
The boy got her back to the beach quickly so she could get off the canoe. As she got off she looked at him and complimented him. But the boy did not take it as a compliment. He said he learned and he would never make the same mistake again for a girl.
