  • It's Tessie
  • A man named Mr. Summer comes into the town square with a black box that will be used for the lottery. The postmaster, Mr. Graves, comes in with a stool that the black box will be set on.
  • Please don't!
  • You go ahead and i'll follow up with you.
  • This event happens during the lottery where a man named Bill Hutchinson comes up to grab his slip. His wife, Tessie, encourages him to go up and get the slip.
  • No!!!!
  • It isn't fair, it isn't right!
  • After all the Hutchinson's chose their slip of paper from the box, it was found that Tessie had the paper with the black spot on it after her husband showed everyone her slip. Therefore, she will be stoned to death.
  • After it was figured out that Tessie "won" the lottery, the villagers began to pile up stones so they could stone and sacrifice Tessie for good corn.
  • Hurry up Mrs. Dunbar!
  • Tessie is in the middle of a cleared space. She is strongly opposed to the idea of throwing stones at her and is protesting but the villagers are ready and are about to throw stones at her.
