POSEIDON In the greek myth he was the brother of Zeus, the king of oceans and the seas. His main symbol were the trident and the dolphin.
CONFLICT
The ancient greek believed that every city had a patron god. They believed that patron gods protected them from harm. Athina and Poseidon wanted to protect the same city. Zeus the main god offered a contest between the two gods, the price would be the city.
Poseidon struck his trident in the ground and water sprang from the hole. It was his gift for the city but it was seawater not drinking water. The people in the city thought this idea was bad and useless.
Athina planted an olive tree in the ground. Her gift was an olive tree. This tree was used to make olive oil and its fruit is also delicous and healthy. The people in the city loved this idea so they chosed Athina to be thieir God.
Athina the god of wisdom was the winner of the competion and gave her name to the city which was called Athens. This is the captital of Greece in our days.This is the founding myths of the city.
