  • Although slaves weren't treated the best, they were allowed to go to churches were they would sing and dance!
  • To add on, they would use instruments like piano, guitar, and different genres!
  • The best thing was that their music would reflect their feelings and their lives as slaves through spiritual and gospel songs.
  • The Southern culture was a lot more conservative compared to the other nations. This was because of their large ownership of agriculture.
  • Well, yes, they used similar methods except that farmers would usually have less slaves and farm cash crops while plantation owners had more slaves and also used many machines that would work to make goods.
  • The hierarchy of the South was slaves, poor white men, farmers, and the wealthy.
  • But weren't farmers and the wealthy, who were technically plantation owners, similar?
  • Interesting how the poor white man wasn't treated the same or worse than a slave.
  • Back to culture, what were the types of literature they had? I mean, I know they had some authors like William Wells, and Mark Twaine.
  • What about cuisines? Did they have any interesting food that they ate?
  • You see, they didn't have the best conditions of food for being a large agricultural society. A lot of their food would spoil or end up tasting bad due to them not having a large portion of spices. Their breakfasts and dinners were both usually same food, except dinner would consist of a larger portion.
  • Those are both important writers who would tell about their life as slaves and stories of colored fiction.
