  • Todays Lesson: Endosymbiotic Theory
  • Today we are learning about the Endosymbiotic Theory.
  • What is Endsosymbiotic Theory?
  • This theory explains the similarities mitochondria and chloroplasts have to be a prokaryote.
  • How did this theory happen? Two bacteria cells, one with photosynthetic abilities, and the other who can produce ATP get engulfed by a larger cell to become one.
  • This means that those cells start to work together, and those two cells that got engulfed eventually evolve into chloroplasts and mitochondria.
  • What is the proof?
  • The proof is that mitochondria and chloroplast have seperate dna that is similar to bacteria dna. It proves that it derived from the bacteria dna
  • Chloroplast, Bacteria cell, Mitochondria
  • The size of the mitochondria and chloroplastare are also similiar to the size of a prokaryotic bacteria cell.
  • When mitcochondria and chloroplasts divide, they divide in a way that is similar to how bacteria divides. It explains that these organelles have the characteristics of bacteria cells.
