Hey Don Pedro. It's good to see you back in one piece.
Rising Action
It can't be!
I love you too.
I love you Hero.
I heard that Beatrice is head over heels for Benedick.
This is great! The marriage will be arranged for at once.
Really?!
It can't be.
Rising Action
I swear, I will shame her at the wedding!
I heard that Benedick is in love with Beatrice!
Really?!
Don Pedro, Don John, Claudio, and Benedick have returned from war. Benedick and Beatrice are at it again. Don Pedro and Leonato are good friends ad welcomes him with open arms. (pages 11-12)
Climax
I saw you yesterday, you cheating. I guess you never loved me like how I loved you.
Claudio confesses his love for Hero and the wedding date is set. In the mean time Claudio, Balthasar, Leonato, and Don Pedro trick Benedick into thinking Beatrice is in love with him. This is part of the rising action because it makes way for the wedding and Don John's plan to ruin Claudio. (pages 12-20 then 36-42)
Falling Action
You must fake her death hoping the one responsible will feel remorse and come forward.
I see
Hero, Margaret, and Ursula trick Beatrice into believing Benedick is in love with her. Margaret fetches Beatrice, who hides behind bushes, and eavesdrops on Ursula's and Hero's conversation, falling into the trap. In the following scene Don John claims that he saw Hero with another man. Claudio doesn't believe it so Don John tells him to meet him at the balcony. Claudio believes it is Hero. This is part of the rising action because it makes Claudio believe Hero is cheating on him and makes way for the climax of the story. (pages 44-48, 50-52)
Resolution
I shall marry whoever you choose.
Bring her Beatrice
No, the same Hero, I faked my death.
Why it is another Hero!
Claudio shames Hero for cheating on him at the wedding. She is extremely confused and ashamed. This is the climax because it is the most intense part of the story since we don't know what Hero is going to do and we know she is wrongly convicted. (pages 63-67)
Bye Hero.
But I didn't cheat on you.
These scenes are the falling action because these actions lead to the resolution. Friar told Leonato to fake Hero's death so that the one who is responsible may feel remorse and come forward. It worked and Inspector Dogberry escorted Borachio to Leonato's house. He confessed everything. Claudio is ashamed after he realized that he wrongly accused Hero, he visits the cometary that night and apologizes to the buried Hero. (pages 69-70, 85-88, 93)
Nothing good ever happens when Don John is around.
I'm so sorry, it wasn't Hero on the balcony, it was me an Margaret. Don John came up with the plan. Oh, Hero, poor Hero.
Oh Hero, what have I done? How could I have been so foolish. You didn't deserve this, I am so sorry.
This is the resolution because all the problems are solved and how the story ends. Claudio agrees to marry whomever Leonato picks. Leonato tells Beatrice to bring out Hero. Claudio thought that Hero was dead and then Hero explained how she faked her death. Beatrice and Benedick learned that they were tricked into thinking the other loved them but they ended up falling in love with each other for real. Beatrice and Benedick got married and Claudio and Hero got married. (pages 95-99)
