- Bruno is a German nine year old boy who is living in Poland with his family during World War 2. Bruno is in Poland because his father is a nazi who got offered a new position in Poland. Bruno would walk to the fence every day to talk to Schmuel and would sometimes bring him food.
- This is the wall that prevents the people in Auschwitz from leaving. This wall is standing in between Bruno and Schmuel's friendship. Bruno and Schmuel would sit at different sides of the wall and talk.
- Schmuel is a Jewish nine years old boy living in Auschwitz during World War 2. Auschwitz is a concentration camp that Jews were sent to during World War 2. Every day Schmuel would wait for Bruno to keep him company, play games and eat food because Schmuel had a very hard life.
- This is on the way to school when Marley was just starting school and was nervous about going to a new school.
- Like the wall in the story, in Marley's mind, the school was a barrier that would decide if he make friends or not.
- After one week, Marley realized that despite the wall (school), it would be okay and he made some great friends, friends that he still has today.
