Well, it would need to first be voted in by Congress, which is made up of the Senate and House of Representatives.
The Senate has 2 representatives for every country, and the House of Representatives have representation based of off population. Together, they create and vote laws.
Then I would just need to convince them to create that law?
What’s the difference between them?
Not exactly, because the national government is split into 3 branches
So how does that affect their ability to make laws?
The Senate has 2 representatives for every country, and the House of Representatives have representation based of off population
The Executive branch can veto their laws, and the judicial branch can say that the law is unconstitutional. These are checks placed on the Legislative branch to ensure no one branch gets too much power
Wow, that seems like a complicated system.
So this means it's basically impossible to make the National Government add Taco Tuesday?
What’s the difference between them?
Well maybe you could ask the State government.
Well the National government and State government have different powers, called Expressed powers and Reserved powers, and they share concurrent powers.
It was made to protect the states if the national government abused its power, but also to allow the national government to have power. This whole system was created by our founding fathers and is called the Federalism
