- I think the king ruling over the people would be benificial
- Thomas Hobbes explains his ideas and how he believes in the social contract theory. However, John Locke doesn't understand how people's rights will be protected. The king got his power from god, that is divine rights.

- But what if something happens to your rights? They don't seem to be protected.
- People need a king to rule over them because people are evil and selfish
- Because John didn't understand how the rights of the people were going to be protected, he presented the idea that everyone has three specific rights and the government needs to make sure the people can have those rights.
- The three rights everyone should be granted are:
- Life LibertyProperty
- Governement needs to be in place to protect or lock up your rights
- Locke
- Jean-Jaque Rousseau took what John Locke said and proposed the idea that there needs to be a contract between the governement and the people, so the government doesn't take your rights away.
- There needs to be a contract between the governement and the people
- That contract can be called the:Social Contract
- Montesquieu came to the conclusion that the governement could easily become to overpowered so he created three different braches. These braches could 'Check' eachother. He called this the Seperation of Powers. he wanted there to be a balance of power bewteen the branches.
- The seperation of powers will keep each branch from becoming to powerful
- The three branches of government could be called:
- JudicialLegislativeexecutive
- Voltaire agreed with Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, and Montesquieu's ideas. However, he thought about how the people were unhappy with the church and the state. He proposed the state and governement be seperate so religion doesn't have to be forced on the people.
- The church and government should be seperate
- If the governement or the king continues to force a certain religion on the people, the people with be unhappy and rebel
- All of these ideas and proposals lead to a revolution in the Americans and the French.
