  • The exposition of the story is when a family is visited by their friend, Sargent Major-Morris, and he shows them something called the mokey's paw that can grant three wishes, Mr. White wants it but before giving it, Morris warns him of the consequences of wishing on it.
  • Falling Action
  • Once the paw is in Mr. White's possession, he makes his first wish: for 200 pounds. The next day, his son, Herbert, died in a work accident so the company he worked for gave the family 200 pounds as compensation for it.
  • Resolution
  • For the second wish, Mrs. White pressures Mr. White into wishing Herbert back to life. Then all of a sudden someone starts knocking at the door.

  • Mrs. White runs to the door to try to let Herbert come inside the house while Mr. White is terrified of how Herbert may be now. Mr. White looks for the paw to make his third wish.
  • Where is it?
  • Right when Mrs. White is about to let Herbert inside, Mr. White finds the paw somewhere and says his last wish. Then there's no more noise and when his wife opens the door, there is no one behind it.
