People made progress in making factories safer by using better technology and building things in a safer way. Workers were only allowed to work a certain amount of hours each day. Kids were given the right to go to school instead of working in factories. States made rules to keep up with laws about factories and how long people could work. The Industrial Commission made sure workers were safe and would get money if they got hurt at work.
Some people who worked in factories had a lot of problems. The factory could be dangerous and cause accidents, and sometimes the machines were not safe. People also had to work for a long time and did not make a lot of money. Sometimes kids had to work in the factories too, which was not good for them.
Immigration and Urbanization:
People from other countries were told they could have a better life and make more money if they came to live in the city. But so many people came that there was not enough room for everyone. This made it hard to keep the city clean and healthy, and many people did not have enough money to live. People who came from the same country would try to stick together to remember their own culture. Some groups made houses where people could go for help and to be with other people like them. People who were in charge of the city were told they had to be fair and help everyone. Some people worked to make new laws that would help the city be a better place to live. One place in New York City helped people learn new things and get help if they needed it.
Women's Rights
A long time ago, women were not allowed to do some things that men could do. But then some women decided they wanted to be treated the same as men. They worked hard to get the right to earn money and own things like a house or land. If a lady and a man had a child but were not married, the lady could keep the child. Women also wanted to vote for who they thought should be in charge. Some ladies who worked really hard to get these rights were named Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, and Julia Ward Howe. The President of the country also said it was okay for women to vote. And then, a new law was made that said ladies could vote too.
Women did not get paid the same amount of money as men and sometimes they could not even work at all. Ladies were also not allowed to own anything like a house or go to school. Women started to speak up for what they wanted and people started to listen.
