- The Peloponnesian war was fought from 431 BC to 401 BC between Athens and Sparta. There were two Peloponnesian wars.
- After the Persian War, Athens and Sparta did not want to fight for 30 years. During this time, Athens became powerful and wealthy and Sparta became jealous of Athens. Finally, during 431 BC Sparta declared war on Athens (First Peloponnesian War).

- The first Peloponnesian war lasted for 10 years. At that time, Athens Dominated the sea and Sparta dominated the land. Pericles called everyone to the Acropolis. Due to the overpopulation in the Acropolis Pericles and many Athenians died.
- In 415 BC, Athens sent one of its allies on the island of Sicily. Athens lost the battle horribly and the second Peloponnesian war began.
- Athens was defeated by Sparta in the Second Peloponnesian War in 404 BC because Sparta had a greater Military.
