  • The meaning of climate is a area's general pattern of atmospheric or weather conditions measured over long periods of time ranging from decades to thousands of years.
  • Different climates of the past are ice ages. The ice age began 2.4 millon years ago and lasted until 11,500 years ago. The earth's climate changed a lot between very cold periods.
  • How do geologists/scientists find out about past climates?
  • Geologists/scientists find out about past climates by using tree rings and ice cores. The difference between a thick and thin ice core is that the thick ice core means more participation and the thin one is less precipitation.
  • Milankovich cycle is the orbit shape of the earth and the orbit shape becomes a oval every 100,000 years and since the earth is farther from the sun , the climate becomes cold.

  • When a volcano erupts , ash comes out of it and makes the sky become cloudy. The earth becomes colder because the sun/sky is blocked by the ash
  • Ocean currents impact earth's climate when tectonic plates move which changes the ocean current. The ocean currents are able to affect weather and climate so when it changes , it becomes more cold or hot.
