This is the wood frog and it has a very special talent.
As the frog adapts to the new temperatures it makes a thing called anti-freeze as it stores its urine in its blood.
Did you know that while I'm a frogsicle everything in my body is able to stay balancedout through homeostasis!
The metabolic rate of the frog slows down as the first ice crystals of season creep in.
As the first cold temperatures of the season creep in the stimuli in the wood frog react to it and tell the wood frog it's time to make its special anti-freeze.
The frog is able to make its anti-freeze through genetics and during its time in the frozen state it goes through changes and grows and develops over time.
While being a frosicle the frog is able to stay alive through the power of homeostasis which is keeping everything balanced on the inside and outside of its body.
After a long 8 months of cold spring rolls around again.
The metabolic rate slows down because the frog is going to freeze and it's metabolism will slow.
After two days of waiting the frog finally goes back out into the new spring season.
The antifreeze created by the urine from the wood frog that was stored in its body goes into the cells to keep them hydrated during the winter because if they lose more than 60% of their water the wood frog will die.
The frog starts to thaw.
The frog goes back out to find a mate, food, and pee.
