  • Daily life in the colonies differed depending on where you lived. If you lived in the city you would be exposed to dirty streets and sewer smells. The cities also weren't as convenient for food sources and had a lot more risks of fire. Life on a farm in the colonies was mostly self reliant. Families would live on a small family farm where they grew all the resources/food they needed.

  • The colonists ideas about government were inspired by English Law. Colonial governments elected assemblies, passed laws, and created taxes and decided how they were to be used.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • In 1765 the Stamp Act was introduced by parliament. The Stamp Act was a new tax that required a postal stamp for all printed items.

  • In 1767 Britain put taxes on British imports, and goods from other countries.
  • On December 16th 1773 the Son's of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians dumped cargo tea off the ship. Which was done in anger of the tea act that allowed only the British East Indian Company to sell to the colonies. Therefore with the tea being from Britain that meant the colonists had to pay taxes on the tea.
