  • Good morning everyone, Last time we talked about traditional assessment and authentic assessment.
  • Today, we will be having a debate about which type of assessment is better to use in teaching and assessing students' knowledge and skills. We will be having 2 groups: girls vs. boys. And now, let's begin with the girls who are tasked with traditional assessment, followed by the boys who are tasked with authentic assessment.
  • For me, traditional assessment is better than authentic assessment because it evaluates a child's learning and retention capacity. It also assists educators or teachers in comparing the performance of various students.
  • It also helps students improve their retention and comprehension skills. They also learn to recognize and reconstruct their intellect, as well as to strengthen their cognitive abilities.
  • If we are only speaking on student’s learning, then Authentic Assessment have more advantages, it deals with real life application of the knowledge or skills that they acquired in class. In fact, the more the students can perform their given task its totally states that they real learn after all
  • Learning is not only on how you memorize the topic nor remembering every detail of the lesson, the utmost important is how you will execute it in real life scenario. Execution of what you learn are definitely the needs of all the students enable to assess effectively.
  • In traditional assessment it does not require any additional tools, the procedure can be completed with just a pen and paper.
  • Pen and Paper? Too formal and actually can be deceived sometimes. Most of the Teachers can notice a very good students if she or he actively perform during the class and that’s implies in Authentic Assessment.
  • I’m pretty sure learning by doing has more effective in student’s learning because it gives them an ample opportunity to be engage enough to the various authentic task and also to expand their knowledge in a higher order thinking skill.
  • But it gives teachers a snapshot of what their students know and also assesses students' content knowledge.

  • In reality, both authentic and traditional assessment are important in teaching and assessing students. Class, it is not a matter of either-or. Always remember, students cannot perform a task if they do not have a mastery of knowledge and skills.
  • And that is why Authentic Assessment Complements Traditional Assessment.
