  • I'll go at once and i'll bring you Medusa's head.
  • King Polydectes wanted Perseus out of the way so he could marry his mother. He had heard of men never returning from Medusa's cave. The king challenged Perseus to go and kill Medusa and bring him her head. Perseus didn't feel brave but knew he couldn't refuse the kings orders.

  • "Take this sheid, use it as a mirror when you find Medusa"
  • When Perseus started his journey the Goddess Athene came to him and gave him a shield to protect himself, Hermes also appeared and gave Perseus some winged sandals to travel quickly, a helmet that made him invisible, a sickle and a special bag.

  • Using his gifts to help him, Perseus arrived at the island with Medusa's cave, either side of the cave were statues of brave men who had come with the same mission, failing by looking into her eyes being turned to stone. As he walked along the island it was very quiet, no animals and no birds.

  • Perseus entered the cave doing as Athene had told him, using the shield as a mirror and his helmet to make him invisible. Medusa heard his footsteps but couldn't see him anywhere.

  • Keeping his eyes on the shield Perseus jumped at Medusa using his sickle to cut off her head. She let out a terrible cry and then lay dead. Perseus picked up her head not looking at her still open eyes and put her head in his special bag and sealed it shut. Perseus was very proud of himself and set out on his journey home.
