  • Joseph E. Brown, John B. Gordon, Alfred H. Colquitt were the three in the Bourbon Triumvirate and they encouraged growth in business and industry. They pushed Georgia to become more self-sufficient by producing and manufacturing its own goods.

  • He was the editor of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper from 1880 to 1899. He was a vocal supporter of industry in Georgia. He described the rebuilding as the "New South" and the name stuck as the New South Era.
