When he was a kid, Toussiant L'Overture's dad explained his worth to him and made sure he knew he had a purpose in this world even though he was born into slavery.
Son, you are more than a slave. You are a real human being who deserves respect and dignity!
1798
Starting early as a follower of the slave revolt, L'Overture soon was agreed to be the leader in 1798. While plantation owners and free people of color were battling, L'Overture took it into his own hands and successfully led his army to a win against the French.

1803
Napoleon Bonaparte wanted to be clear of Haiti's targets , so he broached Toussiant L'Overture to be in terms of peace, and he agreed.
Okay, I agree with that.
Let's be in peace with each other.
1803
Napoleon then invited L'Overture to a so-called “safe” meeting that proved to be not so safe after the French arrested him. They then put him on a ship to France ordered that Toussaint be placed in a prison dungeon in the mountains, and murdered by means of cold, starvation, and neglect.
SIR, YOU'RE BEING ARRESTED!!!
1803
Toussiant eventually died in prison, but the fight for freedom carried on his name, and Haiti ended up free. Napoleon lost his rule and died in prison as he deserved.
