- Hi, My name is Martha and I am 14 years old. living with my grandparents since my dad couldn't take care of me.
- I don't care who the farther is. Martha's grade is better than Joann.
- Look, Joann Farther only owns the only store in this town.
- Why are they yelling?
- The board decided to charge $15 dollars for the scholarship jacket. If you can't pay for that I will give it to the next student in line.
- I'll have to talk about that with my grandfather and I let you know tomorrow.
- A girl named Martha who is 14 years old and is in the8th grade. Martha is living with her grandparents on the farm because her father can’t make enough money to feed his eight children.
- Grandpa, can you give me $15 dollars for my scholarship jacket? My Principal told me I need to pay to get my jacket.
- Hmm, no! Tell your'e principal that the jacket is not a scholarship jacket if you have to pay for it.
- Martha school has a tradition to give a green and gold jacket to someone who maintained the highest grades for eight years. Martha really wants it since she is a straight-A student. Martha hears angry voices in the hallway. Her history teacher Mr. Schmidt and her math teacher, Mr. Boone. The two teachers were arguing about her.
- My grandfather didn't give me $15 dollars for scholarship jacket because he said that it is not really scholarship jacket if you have to pay for it.
- Hmm. Alright then I can make an exceptional one and tell the Board and you will get your'e scholarship jacket.
- The next day the principal called Martha into the office. Martha instantly knew what he was going to talk about and the principal seemed to be very uncomfortable. He explained to her that the board decided to have the student pay $15 dollars for the scholar jacket or else if she couldn’t it would go to the next person in line for the highest grades.
- My principal said that he made an exception for me and I'll be able to get my scholarship jacket.
- Martha goes home and explains to her grandfather that she needs $15 in order for her to get the scholarship jacket for her good grades or otherwise they will give it to someone else who has the second-best grades. Her grandfather said no because if she pays that money then it’s not really a scholarship.
- Martha goes into school and explains to her principal that her grandfather doesn’t want to pay $15 for the scholarship jacket because it is not really a scholarship if she has to pay for the jacket. He told her that he would make an exception and talk to the board to get her scholarship jacket.
- When Martha found out that she got her scholarship she was so excited to share the news with her grandfather. Martha went home and found her grandfather working in the field. She went down and pulled the weeds alongside him. Then, she tells her grandfather that her principal making an expectation for her and her grandfather patted her back while smiling.
