Rose went outside to geet Troy and Bono and to tell them that the food is almost ready, "I'm cooking up some chicken. I got some chicken and collard greens" (Wilson 12). Offering food is something that Rose does often whether someone just walked up or if it is in a moment of tension used to calm things down. She is always offering food because it is the way to people's heart and makes everyone happy which is all she tries to do.
As Rose is coming outside the narrator gives a description of how Rose looks and is perceived, "Though she doesn't drink, her presence is and integral part of the Friday night ritual" (Wilson 11) This demonstrates her effect on others as simply her presence not even participation is needed to help others have fun. Having Rose in attendance is very necessary to make the whole night complete because she is an essential part of everyone's day to day life.
