Jamestown's drinking water was contaminated by seepage of saltwater from the brackish water of the James River and the Chesapeake Bay. It was also contaminated because the setters never dug the wells deep enough or in the proper location. source: baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1995-01-08-1995008104-story.htmlsolpass.org

The Jamestown Colony was affected by many diseases because it was located next to a swamp. The mosquitos carried malaria. This disease killed many settlers. The water the settlers drank was also contaminated with germs. The trash they dumped in the river caused dysentery which causes an infection in the intestines. Typhoid fever was another disease that killed the settlers. source: jamestowngroup6.weebly.com/hardships--disease.html#
