  • Mr Mrs Poyton came to New Zealand in 1828 in Hokianga. Mary Poyton was born in Sydney Australia in 1812 and Thomas was born in 1802 in Ballinor island, Ireland
  • Only in the 10th of January of 1838 is when the French Bishop came to New Zealand to sign the Treaty of Waitangi. But the first Catholic Missions started to arrive in 1814 an
  • Mrs Mr Poyton went back to Sydney Australia because at the time they didn't have a Catholic Parish over here so they went back to baptise their kids
  • Mr Poyton was a good man with good income from the timber industry and he owned a large amount of land in Takapuna and donated some to Bishop Pompallier in 1867
  • Mr and Mrs Poyton made a huge change for the christan comunity and for Bishop Pompallier in the early times of New Zealand .
  • The Impact that Thomas and Mary had with other New Zealanders. On Sunday Thomas would read aloud the prayers of the mass and instuct other catholics in Hokianga from books that bishop Pompallier gave to him and would read the rosary prayer with some pakeha and Maori's around Hokianga
  • Thomas and Mary Poyton hosted the first New Zealand Mass in there own living rooms January 13 1838 and it was lead my Bishop Jean Baptise Pompallier.
  • Mary Poyton died at 15 October 1891 aged 79 and Thomas died at 9 March 1892 and was aged 88. Thomas and Mary lived a happy life and help with making New Zealand a christan comunity
