  • Charles I was unpopular because he tried to impose more ritual on the church of England. Charles initially chose to follow the petition of rights then he later chose to ignore it.

  • The supporters of the king (in red) and the Parliament (in orange) were fighting each other to determine what role each should play in governing England. Parliament won because the New Model Army of Oliver Cromwell, who was a military genius.

  • Under the leadership of Oliver Cromwell, the Puritans triumphed and brought Charles to trial for treason against Parliament. He was found guilty and beheaded.
  • ENGLISH BILL OF RIGHTS
  • Parliament kept much of the power it had won and continued to play an important role in government. Charles II was the new heir to throne after his late father.
  • William began making preparations to invade England in early 1688. It was not until early October that James realized William's intentions. In November 1688, William's forces landed at Torbay and began their march toward London. With almost no bloodshed, England had undergone a "Glorious Revolution".
  • KEEP MARCHING SOLDIER
  • The English Bill of Rights based on the rule of law and a freely elected Parliament. The rule of law holds that all people are subject to the same laws, even someone such as a king or queen. It limits the power of monarchs and forces them to make decisions that obey the laws of their state.
  • According to this here bill of rights, we the people have decided that you can't just do whatever you want anymore
