Thomas Jefferson was looking for ways to expand the united states territory. That way they can keep expanding there area so more people will live there.
Stephen Long - 1819
They Explored Kansas and it was 123 miles of it. They told everyone that Kansas was very green and good. They said a lot of animals and berrys. They were some of the first people to go to Kansas.
Jacksons Speech - 1829
Zebulon Pike was the first american to travel the territory by land. He said that the land was very dry like a desert and it would not be good to live there.
Indian Removal Act - 1830
Stephen Long traveled by steam boat. He said it was like a big hot desert and he called it the great american desert. He said it was bad land.
He said that he wanted more whites and bigger cities and towns and population. He also wanted to have more farms and stuff.
He forced indians to move to Kansas. Tensions between tribes rose. Many tribes were not familiar with the conditions of Kansas. It was really sad and hard for the Indians.
