  • This is my little brother Allie. He has leukemia. I wear this red cap as a remembrance of him through his red hair.
  • In our class discussions, we heavily discussed how Holden's red hunting cap most likely was used to represent his brother's memory. This is because Allie's hair was red as well as the cap. This may have given him a sense of comfort or safety knowing that his brother was "with him".
  • I believe, from talking to my peers and using some of my talking points, that the reason Holden was so careless and unmotivated in school was that he felt like he had nothing left, maybe even suicidal. Since his brother's passing, Holden probably felt this way and didn't need to impress or live up to anyone's standards.
  • In the book, and by using context clues, the carousel played a big part in Holden's life, the way he viewed the world, and an insight into his mind. Many of my talking points discussed how the carousel represented an unchanging world because you went round and round but never went anywhere
  • Throughout the story, Holden also brings up the fact about how the museum also symbolizes forever youth and how sometimes he wishes to be apart of it. They're frozen in time and never change.
