- Hi and welcome to this new program. Today we'll see what hapened in this dates: 16 September 1830 and 16 October 1829 in England. First we will see what happpend in 16 October 1929.
- So, Stephenson. How do you feel about winnig the contest?
- In 16 October 1829, a contest was arranged to see if any engeneer could design a safe and reliable engine to use on the new railway. The winner of this contest was George Stephenson with the engine "Rocket".
- Well... I fell very excited. I know that my engine: "Rocket" would be very succesful.
- Now we will see what people think about the Stephenson's engine. So, What do you think about it?
- I think Stephenson's engeen is not the best. I feel something would fail.
- Stephenson is the best engeneer in England. So I'm sure his engine would work very well.
- Now we are going to talk about the events of16 September 1830: The Liverpool and Manchester Railway was opened with the Prime Minester and the Duke of Wellington. But it wasn't the best of the starts, espacially for William Huskisson, who was run over by the "Rocket" and died that day. After the accident they tried to continue, but suddently the locomotive broke down! Apparently Stephenson's machine was not the best, let's see what people think.
- Prime Minister, how do you feel about what happened?
- I'm furious, what are the others going to think about us? I trusted Stephenson and look what happened! I hope everything would improve soon.
- I'm really sorry.
- After what happened, have you changed your mind about Stephenson's engine?
- Of course not, I knew something would fail, and I was right!
- Well...... yes. I taught his engine would be perfect with no fails, but it wasn't. I think everithing would improve.... I hope so.
