I have a plan! Let's try to invade the New England Colonies from Quebec, with the hope of joining two other British armies marching from New York City and Lake Ontario near Albany, New York so that we can isolate New England from the rest of the Colonies. Is that a good idea?
Yes General Burgoyne!
Burgoyne and his army started marching to Saratoga, and once they reached the small town, the other two armies from New York City and Lake Ontario didn't show up. Instead, there was an branch of the Continental army led by General Horatio Gates that was waiting to fight with them.
Despite hiring Hessians, foreign soldiers from Germany to fight with them, Burgoyne's army won the First Battle of Saratoga, but they suffered twice the number of casualties than the American army, led by Horatio Gates.
I'm really angry that we suffered twice the casualties as the Americans, despite winning.
We might've lost this battle, but we should try to win the next battle.
Burgoyne decided to stay patient and wait for more supplies to come from New York City, but in the meanwhile, the number of American solders increased rapidly, and running out of supplies, Burgoyne sent a force to attack the left wing of the American Army, which was south of Saratoga, but his plan failed. He and his soldiers tried to go north, except heavy rain delayed their advance, the American soldiers surrounded him and his army, and out of options, he decided to surrender himself and his soldiers to the Americans in the second Battle of Saratoga.
I officially surrender myself and my army to you guys!
The Battle of Saratoga proved to be a major victory for the Americans, despite being beaten in the first battle, and they did this by cutting off Burgoyne's supply routes and surrounding him, which led to him surrendering his army. This battle is called the turning point of the revolution because it convinced the French, Spanish and Dutch to join the war and to help the Americans in it, and the French eventually helped the Americans win the Battle of Yorktown and end the American Revolution.
I am so happy that we beat the British, the world's strongest army, in this battle, and that our victory has convinced the French, Spanish, and Dutch to join our side. In the next battles, we will definitely win because now, so many countries are supporting us! Do you guys agree?
Yes General Gates!
