  • Life in Medieval Europe was very crowded and confined,and people interacted a lot with each other and animals.
  • Woof
  • We barely have any room in our longhouse! Miss Bessie, our cow, takes up all the space in the hallway!
  • Unfortunately, the people of that time had bad hygiene systems. Everyone barely every washed their hands, and many animals roamed the streets.
  • Mum, do I need to wash my hands before dinner tonight?
  • Goodness no, Eric. Why would you want to do tha?
  • Probably bite a couple of innocent people, pass on The Black Death and wipe out almost half of Europe.
  • So when the fleas on the rats' pelts came into the towns, it was easy for them to start the virus which we we know of today as The Black Death.
  • Hey Greg, what are you going to do today?
  • As soon as the plague broke out, it was automatically blamed on the dogs and cats who lived on the streets. The community chased out the animals and killed them, without knowing that they actually helped drive away most of the rats.
