Hi! My name is Shelly the snail and today we will be slithering through the Earth's layers. Let's go!
This is the crust. The crust is the outermost and thinnest layer of the earth and is less than 1% of the Earth's volume. It is about 3-5 miles thick under the oceans and 25 miles thick under the continents.
This is the mantle. It makes up 84% of the Earth's volume and extends from 35-2980 kilometers below Earth's surface. It is mostly solid rock and it ranges in temperature from 200- 4000 degrees Celsius.
This is the inner core. It is the hottest part and is made of mostly iron. The temperature is about 5200 Celsius or 9392 Fahrenheit. It is also very large measuring 2440 kilometers, almost the size of the moon.
This is the outer core. The outer core is the only liquid layer and is made up if mainly the metals in iron and nickel, plus small amounts of other substances. It is about 2260 kilometers thick and is extremely hot.
Well ladies and gentleman, that was it on the Earth's layers. I hope you are now educated on each layer and their characteristics. If you wanna know more ask me! Slow long my good friend! See what I did there.. slow long. Because I'm a snail. Haha.
