Hello , Mike i know that you are good at maths can u teach me how to complete the square
Yes i can Jake. Lets go for a walk while i explain it to u. For instance if u have an equation -5x²-50x+1
Can u explain it to me?
First if u have common terms u factor them out. Remember that you don't factor the c value. In terms of our equation we will factor by the coefficient of x²(5). So now we get -5{{x+10x}}+1
I am starting to get it now.
After that we divide our b value by 2 and than square it it will also be added than subtracted inside of the bracket. In terms of our equation we will divide (10/2)² this is (5)² and than its +25 and -25. -5{(x+5)²-25}+1
Than the -25 has to get out of the brackets so you multiply the -5 to each square bracket to open the bracket. The equation now is -5(x+5)²+125+1
Thank you so much Mike!! i now understand everything.
All you now need to do is evaluate everything outside of the bracket. -5(x+5)²+126. This is our answer.
No problem Jake! Let's go and have fun now.
