Everybody cries, a union is absolutely necessary: but when they come to the manner and form of the union, they are perfectly distracted.
William's Wakening
France and Great Britain started fighting over the Ohio River Valley. Forts were built and attacked. An army of colonists started to help the British. George Washington was the leader. The Algonquins stood on French's side.
Finishing France
Nobody trusted the British and the French had all the allies. The British attempted and failed to start the Iroquois Confederacy. Delegates met with the Iroquois to persuade them, but the Iroquois stayed neutral. The Albany delegates talked about how the colonies might work closer with the French. They adopted Benjamin Franklin's Albany Plan of Union. The Albany meeting failed to unify the colonists
Possible Peace
THE TREATY OF FRANCEFRANCE NO LONGER RULES THE COLONISTS NOR CANADA
The French had the upper hand until 1757, when William Pitt became Prime Minister. Pitt sent more British troops to fight in America. Pitt decided that the British would pay for cost of war and after they would raise colonial taxes to pay off the debt.
Britain's Buffering
Quebec was though impossible to attack. In September 1759 British troops surprised and defeated the French army on the Plains of Abraham. The fall of Quebec and Montreal displayed Britain's win.
WE WON
The war in Europe ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The treaty forced France to give Canada and more of its land to the east of the Mississippi River to Britain. The Treaty marked the end of France's power in America.
The French defeat caused suffering for the Native Americans. They lost their French allies and now had to live with the British. The British raised their taxes. Pontiac and his tribe saw Britain as a threat. They captured the British Forts to protect themselves. The Proclamation of 1763 settled Pontiac's war.
