Now that we left Cambodia for good we moved all the way to the US. The year was 1975 and while in the terminal I picked up a newspaper. I thought that I could see something different but I was wrong.
Cambodia soon became a battlefield, harboring U.S. troops, airbases, barracks, and weapons. As many as 750,000 Cambodians were killed from 1970-1974 by American B-52 bombers, using napalm and dart cluster-bombs to destroy suspected Viet Cong targets in Cambodia.
Put that down
When we got to the US there was absolutely no talk about it because the US troops left in secrete. I never knew that that was going to be the last of everything, all the trouble and horror. All I could hope for was for the US to stop and help put Cambodia back to the home land I knew and loved.
Dad? Do you think that everyone back home is going to be OK?
I do not know son. All we can do right now is hope for the best.
The rest of the story is a bit blurry. We can take a trip but it is never going to be the same as it was.
Do you think that we are ever going to go there?
