Guilty, you're honor. I drove to McDonalds and got a Filet O' Fish, but I had a suspended license.
Mr. Steel, you're here for a charge on reckless driving. How do you plead?
Does this guy want to get arrested?
Sir, I don't see how this is relevant.
A Filet O' Fish? Gross! Why would you choose that out of the entire McDonald's menu?
Wait, sir. You can't do that. That goes against the U.S. constitution!
Anyways, the maximum prison sentence for driving without a permit is 1 year, but since you ate a Filet O' Fish, I sentence you to 55 years in prison.
Who says? I'm the judge.
The US Constitution states, "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."
But how does that apply here?
Putting somebody in jail for 55 years because they ate a Filet O' Fish goes against the Cruel and Unusual Punishments part.
Well, kids. The lesson here is never eat the Filet O' Fish.
And remember that the 8th amendment protects you from cruel punishments.
