- Second Wish: Life
- "I wish my son alive again."
- A friend (Sergeant-Major Morris of the family visits for dinner and introduces the monkey's paw.
- Last Wish: Death
- "I'm coming, Herbert; I'm coming"
- After making a wish for 200 pounds, Herbert gets killed and the Whites get the money as compensation.
- Mr. White is persuaded by Mrs. White to wish back their son from the dead and bring him to life.
- Mr. White wishes for his son to disappear / die again.
