  • Bandura's Bobo doll research 1961
  • Adult shows aggressiveness by attacking the doll.
  • Adults either hit the dolls aggressively or acted in a nice respectful way as 36 boys and 36 girls watched.
  • The kids imitate their actions and either strike the bobo doll aggressively or if they belong to the non-aggressive group, do so with almost no aggressiveness. However it is shown that the children are more likely to imitate the behaviour of the adults of the same gender.
  • Bandura's Bobo doll research 1963
  • He carried out research that has 3 separate conditions. One of which was you would be rewarded if you acted aggressively.
  • The second one was for the aggressive behaviour there is a punishment and third had no consequences.
  • strengths: reliable, good control of IV's, establishes cause and effect
  • Usually because of the same gender the children would imitate the actions. Children in the model-rewarded condition were more likely than those in the model-punished condition to mimic aggressive behaviour. The results point to vicarious reinforcement.
  • weaknesses: lacks ecological validity, ethical issues, demand characteristics
