  • Bandura's Bobo doll research 1961
  • Adult begins to attack the doll and behaves aggressively
  • Adults hit the doll vigorously or behave nicely while a group of 36 girls and 36 boys watch attentively.
  • The kids imitate their actions and either strike the bobo doll aggressively or, if they belong to the non-aggressive group, do so with almost no aggressiveness. If the behaviour model shared their gender, they were more inclined to emulate it.
  • Bandura's Bobo doll research 1963
  • He carried out research with three conditions, one was where the role model would be rewarded for acting aggressive towards the doll.
  • The next being the role model was punished for aggressive behaviour then the third suffered from no consequences
  • strengths: reliable, good control of IV's, establishes cause and effect
  • The behaviour is generally imprinted on the kids by the same gender. Children in the model-rewarded condition were more likely than those in the model-punished condition to mimic aggressive behaviour. The results point to vicarious reinforcement.
  • weaknesses: lacks ecological validity, ethical issues, demand characteristics
