- In the text the mother says: "Early tomorrow morning we will take the children out into the thickest part of the woods, make a fire for them, and give them a little piece of bread, then leave them by themselves and go off to our work. They will not find their way back, and we will be rid of them."
- This shows that even when you think that someone would never betray you, there's always a possiblily.
- Theme 1:Sometimes, even your closest and most trusted people might betray you for their own benefit.
- In the story the mother suggests getting rid of the children, so her and her husband didn't have any more mouths to feed.
- Then, A frail old woman emerges from the cottage, offering the children food and shelter, beckoning them to come inside.
- Hansel and Gretel become lost in the woods. they wander the forest until they stumble upon a small candy cottage. hidden deep within the brush of the forest.
- The children haven't eaten in a long time so, they begin to eat bits and pieces off the house.
- Quote;in the story the text says:"But the old woman was only pretending to be friendly, she was a wicked witch who was lying in wait there for children."
- In the story the witch pretended to be kind, so she could lure the children in, to eat them.
- This shows that she was only acting a certain way to get what SHE wanted.
- Theme 2:There will always be someone pretending to be something they aren't to get what they want.
