- Benjamin’s son, Roscoe, was finishing his studies at Harvard and Benjamin and him looked the same age and people confused them. He was very upset because he was young and he only wanted to enjoy his life, so one day, in 1910, he registered for studies at Harvard.He got succeed at football but the third year was only an ordinary player
- We wanted in our team, but if you don’t get stronger you have to leave us.
- Yes, but I can’t go there alone, can you take me there and sing me up?
- I’ve told you many times that I want to go to prep school.
- Finally he stayed in the team because Yale was afraid of him. But as the time passed he got smaller and weaker. Now he was called the Prodigy. Benjamin looks like a 16 years old teenager and had many difficulties to finish his studies. So he went to a preparatory school.
- Well, go then.
- There were tears in Benjamin’s eyes.
- I don’t have time for this nonsense. And I have to tell you that your problem has already gone far enough. You should begin to grow older like every other normal person.
- Benjamin finished talking to Roscoe and went to look at himself in the mirror and he noticed that his face was smooth. Roscoe though that he should wear glasses and a false moustache to look younger.
- Look son, when I was a baby my father thought I should shave my beard and dye my hair to look younger. Now, you are doing the same thing to me, and I won’t do it.
- Now you listen to me. While you are living in my house, you will have to follow my rules.
- In 1915, Benjamin read in the newspaper that the United States would join the war. He wanted to join the army again, but he had to be at least 16 and he didn’t look older than 12. But one day, someone knocked on the door and brought Benjamin an envelope which said : Brigadier-General Button, the army needs you ! Please report to your nearest barracks immediately ! So he went to Camp Mosby. There, he found the colonel.
- But two days later, Roscoe came to bring him home.
- O… Okey, Ge…General Button, then come with me please.
- Where is your daddy ?
- Read this letter from the government. I am Brigadier-General Button.
- Benjamin looked into the fishpond and he saw himself, a baby, in a pram, but he also saw different scenes of all his life. His dad, Hildegarde, the soldier… They were all smiling at him, and he smiled too. Then, Benjamin closed his eyes for the last time and he didn’t see anything at all.
- In 1920, Roscoe had a son, and Benjamin, his grandfather, looked like a ten years old boy, even though he was 65 ! Five years passed and the baby grew into a sweet little boy. Both Benjamin and his grandson looked five. Roscoe brought Benjamin to the kindergarten, but in the third year, he was even smaller and all the other children were bigger than him. In the middle of the year, Benjamin was taken from the kindergarten. When he became a baby, Benjamin had a nurse, Nana, and he became the center of his tiny world. One day, Nana took Benjamin to the park, and they came to a fishpond.
