Once upon a time, in ancient Babylon, two young people fell in love. The handsome Pyramus and the beautiful Thisbe, fell deeply in love for eachother. They were only separated by a wall that divided their homes. They talked and whispered words of love through the cracks of the wall. Eventually, they agreed to leave the city, to meet under the mulberry tree
Thisbe waited for Pyramus under the mulberry tree, until she spotted a lioness on the hunt. Fearing for her life, she ran away, dropping her cloak. When Pyramus finally arrived, he only found her cloak. Assuming that his true love was eaten by the lioness, he stabs himself with his sword, unable to live life without his Thisbe.
When Thisbe returned to the mulberry tree, she found Pyramus dying from his stab wound. She embraces him in her arms before he succumbs to his injury. Thisbe decides to take the sword, and kills herself, joining Pyramus in death. The gods pitied the tragedy of the two lovers, so they left the mulberry tree as a memorial to their passion for each other.
