The Franklin's Tale is the 12th story in the Canterbury Tales.
Climax
Arviragus and Dorigen are happily married. Arviragus must leave to England in order to gain fame. Dorigen is left all alone. While she is sad, her friends distract her with a party.
Falling Action
At the party, Dorigen meets Aurelius, who has been in love with her all of his life. He asks her to be with him and she says no. She states the only way she will be with him is if he can remove all of the rocks from the coast of Brittany.
Resolution
After two years, Aurelius finds a magician. He pays him 1,000 pounds to remove the rocks. The magician is successful and the rocks are gone.
Dorigen tells her husband what has happened. He says she must keep her promise and allows Dorigen to to be with Aurelius. He sends her away.
When Aurelius hears of Arviragus' nobility, he sends Dorigen back to her husband. When the magician hears of Aurelius' nobility, he cancels his entire debt. Who was the most noble?
