  • Workers signed a petition to make changes in the factory conditions and wages. They then proceeded to march peacefully to Czar Nicholas II’s Palace, where his soldiers and police fired on them, killing over 100 people and injuring over 300.
  • Women that worked in factories wanted a change in their treatment because there was a food shortage in their occupation. This led to riots and the government ordering soldiers to advance on them but they took their side.
  • Lenin makes his return to Russia, in an effort to overthrow the government. He led a group called the Bolsheviks who were a group of colonists. This group had their own small military called the Red Guard, who went on to attack the temporary government that was in place because of Bloody Sunday.
  • Russia then went into a civil war caused by the communists (Reds) going against the Whites. Even though the Whites had allies they still suffered defeat by the Reds.
  • Lenin then established War Communism, which meant that the Soviet government took over all businesses in order for everyone get have equal pay and minimize the gap in social classes. But this plan failed when workers lost motivation to work which impacted industrialization and agriculture.
  • Lenin had almost been assassinated twice, but the second attempt left him with a bullet lodged in his neck. The doctors were unable to remove it, and because of it he had multiple strokes, which led to the decline of his health and his death. When he died, he did not want Stalin to take his spot because of his “unlimited authority”.
