In 479 B.C.E. the Greek city-states formed their largest army. They fought the Persians at Plataea. Each army had about 100,000 troops. The Greeks ended up beating the Persian army. They continued to fight and the Greeks ended up freeing city-states. Fighting continued till 449 B.C.E.
