Hello! I am the Histotechnoligist here at Lab-Corp. People in this career can work in hospitals, doctors' offices, clinical pathology labs, veterinary services, private research labs, pharmaceutical companies, or for government agencies. Some histotechnologist can even work from home.
To become a histotechnologist, I had to obtain a Bachelors degree in combination with an accredited histology certificate and earn a professional certification as a Histotechnoloist (HTK).
Today I will be doing microscopic examining on sampled body tissues, staining tissue specimens with dyes to make the cells visible under the microscope, using microtomes, and much more!
My career as a Histotechnologist comes with many advantages. Some of which include; normal working hours, lots of hands on problems and solutions, great for people who like to work indoors, great job outlook, easy job to get into, supportive work environment and much more!
While I love my career, this job is not for everyone. As a histotechnologist, you will have a busy job, demanding work, high levels of responsibility, no working on the wards/clinical skills, minimum to no patient contact, some trainees don't like microscopy, Some trainees don't like postmortems (although these are optional after the first 2 years of training)
Yay! My paycheck has arrived! I earn around $30 per hour and around $60,000 per year! I love my job as a Histotechnologist and I hope you had fun tagging along!
