- In my opinion, Conradin only has five more years to live.
- Conradin is a 10 year old boy who was given five years to live. He lives his with cousin and guardian Mrs. De Ropp. Both shared a mutual dislike for each other. She said she cared for him, but demonstrated it by keeping him away from the things he liked the most.
- Conradin spent most of his time playing in the shed. Where he was accompanied by a ferret and a hen, which he adored. However, one day Mrs. De Ropp was curious to see why Conradin spent so much time in the shed. To her discovery, she found out it was because of the hen.
- The next day, Mrs. De Ropp decides to sell the hen. This broke Conradin's heart, but he tried so hard not to so his emotions. Of course, it would enlighten his aunt to see him distraught. But, Conradin was furious and was going to seek revenge.
- Conradin worshiped the ferret and named it Sredni Vashtar, his God. Red flowers and berries were offered at its shrine. Conradin asked Sredni Vashtar for a favor. And if the ferret was really a God, he'd know what Conradin was asking for.
- Mrs. De Ropp noticed that Conradin kept spending time in the shed. She was sure he was keeping guinea pigs. Curious to find out, she went to the shed, to find a vicious ferret ready to attack. After a few minutes, the ferret walked out with blood stains on his fur. It drank some water and off he went into the bushes, never to be seen again.
- The maid asked for Mrs. De Ropp. Conradin said she was in the shed. Screams were heard and people from the house were rattled to find Mrs. De Ropp's dead body. Everyone was shaken up, except for Conradin. He was enjoying himself a piece of toast, smiling while he saw everything through the window.
