  • "You can not go in there, Giles; Its a court!"
  • "Never saw no spirits?""Susanna Walcott, and— the others? They are also pretending?"

  • The scene is set in a courtroom where Judge Hathorne is questioning Martha Corey about the reasons to her 'witchcraft'. Martha denies the accusation of being a witch saying she wouldn't hurt a child.
  • "Mary, do you send this shadow on me"
  • "I -- I know not. A wind, a cold wind, has come""It is a wind, a wind!"
  • "Stop""Abby, don't do that"
  • Giles tries to interrupt the court by saying that he has evidence that John Putnam just wanted land from these accusations.
  • "You--you are a lecher?""Mr. Parris, go into the court and bring Goodwife Proctor out."
  • Mary tells Danforth that he and the other girls weren't actually seeing things and was faking it. Danforth says that Mary isn't telling the truth.
  • "In what way dissatisfied you?""What about Abigail Williams?""Your husband--did he indeed turn from you?"
  • "I came to think he fancied her.""
  • Abigail and the other girls all claim that Mary an evils spirit that looks like a bird which she claims is attacking them. Abigail claims that a cold wind has enveloped her. Then the rest of the girls follow Abigail's lead as they repeat word after word of what Mary says.
  • John admits to Danforth that he and Abigail have had an affair and also claims that his wife will not lie and admit to the claims as proof.
  • Elizabeth is brought over for questioning unaware that John has admitted to having the affair. She is questioned and lies saying that Abigail was fired based on groundless rumours. In return Danforth believes that John is lying about the affair in an attempt to accuse Abigail.
