- only some survived the cold winters, bad diseases, little food, and barely enough clothes to survive on. Lots were killed in the war which made it harder for everyone else also.

- This was when Washington and his army set out to Valley Forge with his 12,000 men. They walked for about 18 miles.

- They started to build structures before it was too late.it was a complicated time while everyone was starting to get colds and running low on food.

- the first problem they faced was the weather. what really struck them was the cold temperatures, freezing snow and rain, freezing air and wind that caused some frostbite and even death.
- Also, they got hit with a lack of food and different diseases. Lots of soldiers were down because of the lack of food or some type of sickness or disease.
- When they trained with Baron Fredrick von Steuben, they learned how to reload their muskets quickly after firing which helped them a lot throughout the war.
