- I traveled with my caravan for days in this vast, treacherous desert, possibly weeks to find this hidden treasure. Others could not handle the conditions, but I was eventually able to arrive at precious water.
- Mansa Musa is a miserly king, not a man from whom one might hope for a rich present. I pity the citizens here, they are honorable in comparison to him.
