One of the themes in of mice and men is the american dream . Lennie and George have the dream of owning their own ranch . During this time many others have the same dream but many are also unable to for fill this dream due to the great depression and the many economic struggles .
companionship

loneliness played a big part in this book due to one of the characters ,Crooks , being discriminated against on the farm . He has to sleep in a small shed life room near where the animals sleep . He is often very lonely because the only time he is allowed to talk to people is when playing horse shoe . He experiences this due do is skin color .
Barriers
One of the themes in this story was powerlessness , this was a big theme in the story because many of the farm workers had little to no power . They all had to work for somebody else and they do not have the freedom to take against the boss
Friendship
One of the major themes is companionship . This theme plays a big part in the story when candy's very loved dog is killed .This is an example of companionship Candy's dog represented him and he loved his dog regardless of how old and smelly it was .
In the book of mice and men one of the themes is barriers , something that curley's wife does not seem to have . She constantly is around the workers even though she knows she will get punished . She flirts with the men knowing that they can get in trouble with the boss . She does not understand the concept of how badly the men could get in trouble because of her .

Another of the major themes in the book is friendship , This theme plays a big part in the story because George has to deal with lennie due to the promise he made to lennies aunt Clara. Even though lennie does get in trouble George has always been there to clean up the mess afterwards . George is always willing to go to the end of the earth for lennie .
